Serbian leader castigates West’s attempts to ‘ban’ Gagarin and Dostoyevsky

As Aleksandar Vucic notes, the world is literally possessed by insanity, when nobody listens to anyone, everybody is threatening everybody

BELGRADE, March 21./TASS/. President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic has dubbed attempts in the West to ‘ban’ Yuri Gagarin and Fyodor Dostoyevsky as the effect of hysteria and insanity that have gripped the world.

"The world is literally possessed by insanity, when nobody listens to anyone, everybody is threatening everybody. You find yourselves in the situation when you are told that Yuri Gagarin can no longer be in the foundation of cosmonauts of the world. Wait a bit, people, Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space. How did it occur to you to remove him from the foundation?!" the president told an election rally in the city of Opovo, broadcast by the Vesti TV channel.

"Some suggest not to study Dostoyevsky at school since he is Russian. And which of the writers is greater and more important than Dostoyevsky?" he asked, castigating these attempts as "the effect of hysteria".

Earlier, the US NGO Space Foundation announced the cancellation of the annual Yuri’s Night, saying that the decision to rename the holiday had been made ‘in the light of current world events’. Later, the announcement about renaming the party was removed from the NGO’s website.

Earlier, lectures by renowned writer and translator Paolo Nori about the works of Fyodor Dostoyevsky were cancelled at University of Milan.
