The parties will also listen to a report from the Ukrainian Defense Minister
BRUSSELS, March 18. /TASS/. EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrel will present his analysis of possible scenarios for the development of the conflict in Ukraine to EU foreign and defense ministers at a meeting in Brussels on March 21, a source in the EU foreign policy service told reporters on Friday, adding that Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexey Reznikov will speak at the meeting as well.
"The EU foreign ministers and defense ministers will discuss the situation in Ukraine on Monday and will hear from the head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry [Alexey Reznikov]. High Representative [for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the EU Josep] Borrel will present his analysis of possible conflict scenarios," the source said, specifying that Monday's discussion will revolve around three main topics: diplomatic settlement, Russia’s deterrence and aid to Ukraine.
"The EU will continue to support Ukraine, including supplying Kiev with weapons, humanitarian aid, providing macrofinancial assistance and cybersecurity support," the European diplomat said. This discussion will prepare the ground for the EU, NATO and Group of Seven (G7) summits, which will take place in Brussels on March 24-25.
He noted that the ministers will exchange views on the possibility of imposing a new package of sanctions against Russia. In the context of Ukraine, the ministers will also consider the situation in Moldova, including the situation of Ukrainian refugees.
The situation in Mali will also be discussed at the ministerial meeting. The EU is very concerned about the work of the private military company Wagner, which was invited by the Malian authorities instead of the French military to provide effective assistance to the country in the fight against terrorist groups.
The ministers will also hold a discussion on the EU's first-ever security proposal, known as the Strategic Compass.
