Turkey put in a lot of effort in securing a ceasefire from the very beginning, Mevlut Cavusoglu stressed

MOSCOW, March 16. /TASS/. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said bloodshed in Ukraine must be stopped as the humanitarian situation in the country is getting worse.

"Turkey has stuck to a clear position since the beginning of the crisis in Ukraine," he said at a news conference on Wednesday following talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. "We have always honestly and sincerely shared our concerns and criticisms, called for common sense and dialogue, and drew attention to the need to reduce tensions and create a space for diplomacy."

"We put in a lot of effort in securing a ceasefire from the very beginning," the Turkish minister continued. "However, unfortunately, since February 24 to this day devastation and humanitarian drama [in Ukraine] continue to grow."

"Thousands of civilians were killed while more than 3 million people fled their country," he said. "All this needs to stop. Blood and tears need to stop being shed."

"We have always stated and will continue to state that there are no winners in wars," Cavusoglu said.
