MOSCOW, March 6. /TASS/. French President Emmanuel Macron discussed with his Ukrainian counterpart, Vladimir Zelensky, issues of the security of Ukrainian nuclear power plants, the Elysee Palace said on Sunday after their telephone conversation.
According to its press statement, Macron informed Zelensky about his telephone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier in the day. He also touched upon issues of the security of nuclear facilities in Ukraine. "The president reiterated that it is absolutely necessary to avoid any attacks on Ukrainian civil nuclear facilities," it said.
The two presidents also discussed the humanitarian situation in Ukraine. Macron reiterated that France will continue to expand its support in this sphere.
During his call with Putin on Sunday, the French president stressed the necessity to guarantee humanitarian aid delivery to Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a televised address on February 24 that in response to a request by the heads of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation in order to protect people "who have been suffering from abuse and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years." The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories.
Following this step, the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and several other countries announced sanctions against Russia individuals and legal entities.
