More Russian troops leave Kazakhstan after peacekeeping mission - Defense Ministry

The Il-76 military transport planes will deliver personnel and equipment of the airborne units to the Vostochny air field in the Ulyanovsk Region and Chkalovsky air field in the Moscow Region

MOSCOW, January 17. /TASS/. A few more military planes took off from Kazakhstan carrying Russian troops that participated in a peacekeeping mission in the country, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

"Russian peacekeeping units that were part of the CSTO peacekeeping forces loaded military equipment into military transport aircraft Il-76 and departed Almaty," the ministry said in a statement. "The Il-76 military transport planes will today deliver personnel and equipment of the airborne units, which performed missions as part of the CSTO collective peacekeeping forces, to the Vostochny air field in the Ulyanovsk Region and Chkalovsky air field in the Moscow Region."

Commanding officers and family members will take part in a welcoming ceremony. The personnel will then unload the weapons, equipment and other property and head to their permanent bases.

Earlier, some Russian airborne troops were airlifted from Almaty to an air field in the Ivanovo Region and the Chkalovsky airfield. On January 14, peacekeeping units from Armenia, Belarus and Tajikistan returned home. All peacekeeping units plan to return to their permanent bases by January 19.
