According to the EP lawmaker, this report looks quite surrealistic

MOSCOW, September 16. /TASS/. The European Parliament’s report on the relations between the European Union and Russia looks surrealistic and is geared to keep these relations at a level of a conditional cold war, Thierry Mariani, a French member of the European Parliament, said in an interview with the Izvestia daily.

"There is nothing new in it. Actually, this document is geared to keep the relations between the European Union and Russia at a level of a conditional cold war, when Europe speaks about an imagined threat at its border and demands further sanctions under a certain lobby," he said.

According to the EP lawmaker, this report looks quite surrealistic. "We are not in a state of war with Russia. What we are fighting against in Europe is, say, Islamism. But we see that some politicians are simply pouring fuel on the fire," he noted.

"I take this report with regret and, of course, will not vote for it because I am convinced that we must look for possibilities for dialogue with Russia and it is simply dangerous to continue to follow the current path," Mariani stressed.

Ahead of a plenary session on September 13-16, political groups in the European Parliament agreed a report on the European Union’s relations with Russia that had been drafted by Lithuania’s former Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius. The results of the voting on this report will be announced on September 16. The European Parliament’s resolutions are not biding on EU countries.
