Over 200 Palestinians killed and 5,600 injured since escalation of conflict with Israel
The Health Ministry of the coastal enclave clarified that this data included those killed and injured in the wake of Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip, which have not stopped since Monday, as well as clashes and riots in the West Bank
CAIRO, May 16. / TASS /. More than 200 Palestinians have been killed since the escalation of conflict with Israel, while about 5,600 people have been injured, the Wafa News Agency stated on Sunday citing the Health Ministry of the coastal enclave.
The ministry clarified that this data included those killed and injured in the wake of Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip, which have not stopped since Monday, as well as clashes and riots in the West Bank. In total, the outbreak of violence claimed the lives of 202 Palestinians, while some 5,588 people were injured, the health ministry reported.
"In the [Gaza] Strip, as many as 181 Palestinians have been killed, including 52 children and 31 women, whereas 1,225 people were injured," the statement reads. "The death toll in the West Bank has reached 21, and 4,363 people received wounds."
The Israeli army and Palestinian radicals in the Gaza Strip have been exchanging missile strikes since May 10, following the outbreak of violence near the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City, sparked by Israeli court order to confiscate homes from Arab families. According to the latest data, at least 10 people were killed on the Israeli side, while some 50 people were injured. The Gaza radicals have fired about 3,000 rockets at Israel. The army carried out hundreds of strikes on Gaza.
