MOSCOW, February 26. /TASS/. The number of people vaccinated against COVID-19 in the world is twice as high as the global case count, TASS calculates based on the data provided by governments, experts and the media.

Currently, about 227 mln people have been vaccinated (about 2.9% of the global population), while 113.1 mln people have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

About 75% of all those vaccinated are residents of eight states: the US, China, the UK, India, Turkey, Israel, Brazil and the UAE.

The rate of vaccination continues to decrease, however. In early February, about 6 mln people got vaccinated against COVID-19 on average globally. Last week, this figure dropped to 5 mln, and this week, it is reported at 4.4 mln.

The US boasts the highest number of vaccinated persons - 68.3 mln compared to 28.4 mln people diagnosed with COVID-19. China places second with 40.5 mln people vaccinated (400 times more than the case count), and the UK comes in third, where 19.5 mln people have been vaccinated, counting the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and overseas territories.

Israel has the highest share of people vaccinated against COVID-19 with 88.5% inoculated citizens, followed by the Seychelles (72.9%) and the UAE (60.7%).

Nikolay Briko, Russian Health Ministry’s chief non-resident epidemiologist, informed on Friday that about 4 mln Russians have been vaccinated, coming up to over 2.7% of the population. Meanwhile, 4.2 mln people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Russia.
