Ukrainian forces open fire on DPR civilian, republic says

The wounded civilian was rushed in critical condition to a hospital in the area controlled by Ukraine

DONETSK, February 25. /TASS/. A civilian was wounded in the fire opened by Ukrainian forces when he was trying to cross the contact line in Donbass, the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) said on Wednesday.

"As the Ukrainian side has blocked the entry-exit checkpoint, a resident of the republic tried to cross into the area controlled by Ukraine at the inhabited locality of Novoselovka to visit his relatives. Militants of the 53rd brigade opened fire with small arms at the approaching man and wounded him," says the statement posted on the DPR militia’s Telegram channel.

The wounded civilian was rushed in critical condition to a hospital in the area controlled by Ukraine.

On July 27, 2020, additional ceasefire control measures came into effect in Donbass after being approved by the Contact Group seeking peace for eastern Ukraine. The measures ban any offensive, intelligence or sabotage activities, the use of all types of aircraft, any shooting, and the deployment of heavy weapons to inhabited localities. One of the key provisions of the agreement stipulates disciplinary measures for ceasefire violations, whereas in case of offensive operations, return fire is allowed only after a direct order from the command.
