NEW YORK, February 19. /TASS/. The Capitol Police has placed 29 officers under investigation for their conduct in the Capitol Building riot on January 6, CNN reported Thursday.
According to the channel, six more officers have been temporarily suspended with pay. "Acting Chief Yogananda Pittman has directed that any member of her department whose behavior is not in keeping with the Department's Rules of Conduct will face appropriate discipline," CNN quoted Capitol Police spokesman John Stolnis as saying.
It is noted that one of the suspended police officers took a selfie with a protester at the rally, while another one directed protesters around the Capitol Building.
On January 6, Trump supporters stormed the Capitol Building in Washington DC to stop lawmakers from officially certifying the results of the November presidential election in a last-ditch attempt to prevent Democrat Joe Biden from becoming the new president. One protester was shot dead during the unrest. In addition, three others died, the causes of their deaths were qualified as medical emergencies. Another Capitol Police officer died after the clashes.
