MOSCOW, February 15. /TASS/. The crews of Su-27 aircraft of the Baltic Fleet’s fighter aviation will conduct missile launches against bombers intruding Russia’s airspace during drills in the westernmost Kaliningrad Region, Fleet Spokesman Roman Martov announced on Monday.
"The crews of Su-27 fighters will perform the assignments of intercepting notional intruders of the borders of the Kaliningrad Region and will also conduct missile launches against targets that simulate the notional enemy’s cruise missiles and strategic bombers. Overall, the drills will involve more than 100 personnel and over 10 Su-27 fighters," the spokesman said.
During the tactical flight training, the fighter aircraft pilots and the ground personnel will practice preparing the planes for sorties, dodging a notional enemy’s strikes and flying to alternate airfields, he specified.
At the ground stage of the drills, the engineering personnel and radiation, biological and chemical protection specialists will practice the procedures within the required time limits during a fighter’s landing on a notionally contaminated airfield.
"In addition to improving their flight skills, the crews of the Baltic Fleet’s Su-27 multirole highly maneuverable fighters carry out round-the-clock patrols, protecting the air borders of the Kaliningrad Region," the spokesman said.
