New Belarusian foreign policy concept to take new threats into account — foreign minister

According to the country's top diplomat, the current foreign policy concept will not be radically dismantled

MINSK, February 12. /TASS/. The new concept of Belarusian foreign policy will be developed before the end of this year, Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said Friday, adding that the document will take new threats and challenges into account.

"Considering those new threats and challenges that have emerged, keep emerging, and, I am certain, may emerge in the near future, the need arose to adjust some foreign policy approaches of the Republic of Belarus. I believe we will calmly work out this document over the course of this year," the top diplomat noted.

The drafting of the new document does not mean that the current foreign policy concept will be radically dismantled, Makey explained. "A lot will remain, because many things in the current concept fully conform to the current situation," he said.

Meanwhile, he added, it is necessary to review new threats and challenges that have emerged lately.

To elaborate the concept, Minsk will take into account the behavior of Western partners and the options for adjustment of relations. "We will consider all this during the development of our foreign policy doctrine. But I would like to say that we are interested in friendly relations with everyone who seeks normal ties with Belarus," the top diplomat said.
