Number of coronavirus cases in Czech Republic rises above 10,000 in one day
The last time over 10,000 new daily cases were registered in the country was on January 13, according to the local Ministry of Health
PRAGUE, February 10. /TASS/. The Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic reported 10,165 new coronavirus cases in the country in the past 24 hours. According to the department's website, the last time over 10,000 new daily cases were registered in the country was on January 13.
According to the Ministry, the total number of cases reached 1,055,415 while 941,014 people recovered. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 17,642 died from complications caused by the virus.
At the same time, 5,921 patients were hospitalized with coronavirus in the Czech Republic, including 1,058 in serious condition. The total number of patients undergoing treatment is 96,759.
The first coronavirus case was recorded in the Czech Republic on March 1, 2020. Since then, 6,719,474 PCR tests and rapid virus detection tests have been carried out in the country.
Since October 5, the emergency regime has been restored in the Czech Republic, which was in effect from March 12 to May 17, 2020. It was later introduced until February 14. The government appealed to the parliament with a proposal to extend it until March 16. On December 27, 2020, vaccination against coronavirus began in the country, so far 382,416 residents (2.43%) have been vaccinated.
In late December 2019, Chinese officials informed the World Health Organization (WHO) about the outbreak of a previously unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, in central China. Since then, cases of the novel coronavirus - named COVID-19 by the WHO - have been reported in every corner of the globe, including Russia. On March 11, 2020, the WHO declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic.
