Ukraine reports almost 4,000 daily COVID-19 cases

The total number of infected people in Ukraine has reached 1,167,655 since the start of the pandemic

KIEV, January 19. /TASS/. Ukrainian medical workers recorded 3,939 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, an almost 30% increase from the previous day when 3,034 new cases were confirmed, Health Minister Maxim Stepanov wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

"As of January 19, 2021, 3,939 COVID-19 cases were recorded in Ukraine, with 131 children and 238 medical workers contracting the disease," he noted.

Another 801 patients were hospitalized in Ukraine in the past 24 hours, 177 people died, while 15,052 patients recovered.

The total number of infected people has reached 1,167,655 since the start of the pandemic, 886,248 patients have recovered. So far, 21,046 fatalities have been reported nationwide.

Ukraine conducted 18,734 coronavirus tests in the past 24 hours. A total of 5,983,122 tests covering more than 14.2% of the population have been conducted since the beginning of the pandemic.

Ukraine reported its first coronavirus case on March 3. The authorities imposed a lockdown on March 17. According to the government’s decision, an emergency situation regime will be in force until February 28.

On December 30, the Ukrainian authorities announced the country’s first contract for the purchase of over 1.9 mln doses of a coronavirus vaccine produced by China’s Sinovac Biotech company. The country is expected to receive the first 700,000 doses of the vaccine as early as in February. Ukraine also expects vaccine supplies under the COVAX program.
