Over 1.55 mln people diagnosed with COVID-19 in Mexico

In the past week, the number of cases went up by 8%

MEXICO CITY, January 13. /TASS/. Since February 2020, Mexico has documented 1,556,028 cases of COVID-19, Alethse De la Torre Rosas, head of the National Center for the Prevention and Control of HIV and AIDS, said during a press conference on Tuesday.

"In the past week, the number of cases went up by 8%," she said. In the past 24 hours, 14,395 cases of COVID-19 have been documented in Mexico, which is 6,801 more than on Monday. Meanwhile, 1,168,354 patients have recovered since the start of the pandemic.

In the past 24 hours, 1,314 COVID-19 patients have died in the country, which is 652 more than the day before. In total, 135,682 people have died from the virus in the country. "The lethality rate [currently] equals 8%," the official informed.

Mexico launched mass vaccination against COVID-19 on December 24. So far, nearly 93,000 people have been vaccinated in the country.
