UNITED NATIONS, November 18. /TASS/. Third Committee of the UN General Assembly has held a meeting Wednesday and adopted the Russian draft resolution entitled "Combating glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fuelling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance." The draft resolution was supported by 122 states, 53 abstained and two opposed it (the United States and Ukraine).

The text, co-sponsored by more than twenty countries, expresses "deep concern about the glorification, in any form, of the Nazi movement, neo-Nazism and former members of the Waffen SS organization, including by erecting monuments and memorials, holding public demonstrations in the name of the glorification of the Nazi past, the Nazi movement and neo-Nazism."

Russia’s deputy permanent envoy Gennady Kuzmin in his speech underlined that the draft resolution "is not at attempt at historic exploration and research." "We are talking about the problems which states face not just regularly but constantly," the diplomat pointed out.

According to him, the document doesn’t aim "to hold certain states to account." "This is a resolution focused on cooperation and dialogue," Kuzmin explained.
