Dialogue between BRICS legal communities in high demand, says Lavrov

The minister noted that BRICS cooperation is becoming more multi-faceted, covering new prospective areas of joint work

MOSCOW, November 18. /TASS/. The dialogue between BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) legal communities is in high demand especially as Western countries try to impose "a world order based on rules" instead of an international legal architecture, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in his welcome message to the organizers and participants of the VII BRICS Legal Forum 2020. The message was published on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website.

"The dialogue between legal communities makes its contribution to the common cause. Today, such high-ranking discussions are in high demand, especially now that a number of Western states are trying to destroy the international-legal architecture that was formed after the Second World War, trying to impose their own self-serving and non-inclusive world order based on rules," Lavrov said.

The minister noted that BRICS cooperation is becoming more multi-faceted, covering new prospective areas of joint work. "The key to such success is the coincidence or significant convergence of approaches, the reliance on international law, and on a positive, future-oriented agenda," the minister added.

The VII BRICS Legal Forum 2020 is held on November 18-19 in an online format.
