Number of coronavirus cases in Turkey up by over 3,100 in past day

A total of 1,326 patients have recovered

ANKARA, April 6. /TASS/. The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Turkey has risen by more than 3,100 and exceeded 30,000, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Monday.

"As many as 21,400 tests have been made in the past 24 hours, with 3,148 new cases registered. Seventy-five patients have died. Now, the overall number of deaths stands at 649, and those infected - at 30,217," he wrote on his Twitter account.

According to the minister, a total of 1,326 patients have recovered.

The first coronavirus case was confirmed in Turkey on March 10. The patient was a Turkish nationals who had returned from Europe.

In late December 2019, Chinese officials notified the World Health Organization (WHO) about the outbreak of a previously unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, in central China. Since then, cases of the novel coronavirus - named COVID-19 by the WHO - have been reported in every corner of the globe, including Russia.

On March 11, 2020, the WHO declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic. To date, approximately 1,300,000 people have been infected worldwide and roughly 70,000 deaths have been reported.
