Zelensky’s team backs exit ban on Poroshenko, his allies
The court is considering the request and will decide on opening proceedings in connection with the case
KIEV, April 29. /TASS/. The team of Ukrainian President-elect Vladimir Zelensky has backed a petition on barring incumbent head of state Pyotr Poroshenko and his close associates from leaving the country.
"There is always a decent response to each crime," Zelensky’s campaign headquarters said, according to Ukrainskiye Novosti newspaper.
This comes in response to journalist Alexander Dubinsky’s request filed with Kiev’s District Administrative Court on introducing an exit ban for a year after the presidential and parliamentary election on Poroshenko, his administration chief Igor Rainin and First Deputy Head of the Pyotr Poroshenko Bloc’s faction in the parliament, Igor Kononenko.
Now the court is considering the request and will decide on opening proceedings in connection with the case.
Earlier, Zelensky held a meeting at his headquarters with staff members of 20 leading anti-corruption organizations. The future head of state acknowledged that corruption is one of Ukraine’s key troubles.
According to Politeka news portal, Head of the Anti-Corruption Action Center Vitaly Shabunin told the meeting about large-scale embezzlement of state funds carried out by the current authorities.
After the meeting, Zelensky outlined a number of reforms aimed at combating corruption in Ukraine. He called to ensure full autonomy of anti-corruption bodies. Zelensky stressed that the courts should have all resources for considering cases on corruption-related crimes.
