KIEV, April 22. /TASS/. Leader of Ukraine’s Batkivshchina party Yulia Timoshenko has pointed to the need to form a new Ukrainian government in the wake of Vladimir Zelensky’s victory in Sunday’s presidential election.

"Should we tolerate the current government for another six months? After all, 75% of the people did not cast their votes for change to tolerate this government for another half a year," she said at a meeting of the Coordination Board of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament) on Monday.

"If this parliament has at least some sense of conscience, it is necessary to give an opportunity to form a new government, which will have totally different objectives and tasks," she added.

According to Timoshenko, it is also essential for the new president to appoint a new prosecutor-general, chairman of Ukraine’s Security Service and defense minister. That should be done "to see whether the new president has the political will to hold accountable all those government officials who were involved in corruption with the help of his security chiefs." "That will be the first test of change," Timoshenko said, adding that Zelensky’s win was "a chance for Ukraine."

Zelensky garnered 73.15% of the vote in the runoff election held on April 21, with 97.99% of the ballots processed, while incumbent President Pyotr Poroshenko secured 24.52%.
