KIEV, April 20. /TASS/. Ukraine’s Central Election Commission believes that the legal claim against presidential candidate Vladimir Zelensky demanding his withdrawal cannot be sustained.

"The claim cannot be sustained," the commission’s representative told the court considering claim on Saturday night, just a few hours before the runoff polls.

Meanwhile, the judge said the court ruling will be pronounced shortly after midnight.

Kiev’s court is considering a claim demanding Vladimir Zelensky be withdrawn as presidential candidate. Free ticketing to Friday’s debates between the contenders is cited as a reason.

Part of the tickets to the debates between Zelensky and his rival, incumbent President Pyotr Poroshenko, were circulated free of charge. Thus, Zelensky’s campaign team invited people to obtain free tickets via the internet. "Canvassing or offering free or privileged services and lotteries accompanied by the mention of a candidate’s name is seen as a vote buying," the Strana (Country) media outlet quoted the legal claim against Zelensky.

This is the reason why the claimant, Andrei Khilko of the public organization Ukrainian Association of Shareholders, demands the court recognize free ticketing as vote buying and oblige the Central Election Commission to cancel Zelensky’s registration as a presidential candidate.

Earlier in the day, Khilko said he had filed a legal claim against Zelensky. Apart from that, he said he planned to run for Ukrainian president himself in future.

Meanwhile, Zelensky’s representatives said the claim is ungrounded and futile.
