European Council summit on Brexit set for April 10, says Tusk
Earlier, the UK House of Commons rejected a draft deal with Brussels to specify the terms of UK’s withdrawal from the EU
BRUSSELS, March 29. /TASS/. The European Council’s emergency summit on Brexit will take place on April 10 in view of the rejection of another Brexit deal by the UK House of Commons earlier on Friday, European Council President Donald Tusk stated on Twitter.
"In view of the rejection of the Withdrawal Agreement by the House of Commons, I have decided to call a European Council on 10 April. #Brexit," he wrote.
Earlier, the UK House of Commons rejected a draft deal with Brussels to specify the terms of UK’s withdrawal from the EU. During Friday’s vote, 344 members of the House of Commons voted against the deal, while 286 supported it.
If the deal had been approved, the MPs would have until May 22 to agree on all remaining issues related to Brexit, and the UK would leave the European Union in less than two months. The outcome of the vote means that a possibility of no-deal Brexit is high.
