US decision on Golan Heights is open demonstration of permissiveness, says Lavrov
"This demonstration of permissiveness, along with threats, ultimatums and sanctions, are the tools used by the US on the international stage," the Russian Foreign Minister said
ANTALYA /Turkey/, March 29. /TASS/. The United States’ decision to recognize the Golan Heights as part of Israel is a deliberate demonstration of permissiveness, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters at a joint news conference with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu following meeting of the Joint Strategic Planning Group.
"In addition to the fact that many people analyze that move in light of the upcoming elections in Israel, it also has another dimension, of course," Russia’s top diplomat said. "I feel that this is a deliberate, conscious demonstration of permissiveness. This demonstration of permissiveness, along with threats, ultimatums and sanctions, are the tools used by the US on the international stage."
"That is sad, but such an attitude towards international law can be seen everywhere," the minister stressed.
He referred to Washington’s withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran’s nuclear program, which was "a flagrant violation of the UN Security Council’s resolution, which endorsed it," along with the Venezuelan crisis, with "all imaginable principles forming the core of interstate communication enshrined in the UN Charter trampled under foot."
"And, of course, such an attitude towards the UN Security Council’s decisions on the Middle East settlement and the Golan Heights in particular is yet another example to this effect," Lavrov concluded.
