Former Kazakh president, Ukraine's Poroshenko agree to continue regular contacts
On March 19, Nursultan Nazarbayev announced his resignation after almost 30 years in power
NUR-SULTAN, March 26./TASS/. First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko have agreed to continue cooperation in the future in a phone call on Tuesday, the press service of the Kazakh president reports.
"During the conversation, Ukrainian President emphasized the historical role of Nursultan Nazarbayev in developing Kazakh-Ukrainian relations and in the strengthening of friendship between the peoples of the two countries. Nursultan Nazarbayev and Pyotr Poroshenko agreed to continue regular contacts in the future," the report said.
On March 19, Kazakhstan’s first president Nursultan Nazarbayev, 78, announced his surprise resignation after 30 years in power. Senate Speaker Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, 65, was sworn in and assumed the post of the Central Asian country’s president on Wednesday, vowing to maintain Nazarbayev’s strategic course.
