Vladimir Zelensky's approval rating exceeds 30%

KIEV, March 25. /TASS/. Ukrainian presidential candidate and representative of the Servant of the People political party Vladimir Zelensky has the highest chance of winning the runoff election, according to a poll conducted by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) on March 14-22.

"Vladimir Zelensky is garnering the greatest number of votes, if he faces off against Pyotr Poroshenko (the comic gets 43% vs Poroshenko’s 17.6%), against Yulia Timoshenko (its 39.1% vs Timoshenko’s 20%), and against Anatoly Gritsenko (its 37.7% vs Gritsenko’s 23.7%)," the pollster reported on its website on Monday. It also noted that the incumbent president had no chance whatsoever of winning the runoff, adding that he would lose to any possible rival.

According to the survey, Zelensky’s approval rating exceeds 30%. As many as 32.1% of those who are going to vote at the upcoming election said they would cast their votes for Zelensky followed by Ukraine’s current President Pyotr Poroshenko (17.1%) and leader of the Batkivshchina (Fatherland) party Yulia Timoshenko (12.5%). On the other hand, 10.4% said they were ready to vote for Yuri Boiko nominated by the Opposition Platform - For Life, while 6.9% said they would support Chairman of the Civic Position party Anatoly Gritsenko.

The political parties’ approval ratings are in many ways similar to those of individual politicians. Sociologists noted that seven parties could make it to Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada (parliament) after the autumn elections. As many as 24.4% of those who will vote in the parliamentary elections said they would cast their votes for the Servant of the People party, 16.5% - for the Batkivshchina party, 14.1% - for the Pyotr Poroshenko Bloc party. The Opposition Platform - For Life (12%) and Anatoly Gritsenko’s Civic Position party (8.3%) rank fourth and fifth. Oleg Lyashko’s Radical Party (5.3%) and the Opposition Bloc party (5.1%) likewise pose a chance of getting into the parliament. The remaining political parties are unable to overcome the 5% election threshold.

The Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) conducted a nationwide public opinion poll from March 14 to March 22, interviewing 2,004 respondents in Ukraine’s 126 inhabited communities. The average margin of error does not exceed 2%.
