US Federal Aviation Administration grounds Boeing 737 MAX aircraft on US territory
The decision follows the Ethiopian Airlines plane crash en route from Addis Abada to Kenya's Nairobi on 10 March 2019
WASHINGTON, March 14. /TASS/. The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered the temporary grounding of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft operated by US airlines or in US territory. The decision follows the Ethiopian Airlines plane crash en route from Addis Abada to Kenya's Nairobi on 10 March 2019.
"The agency made this decision as a result of the data gathering process and new evidence collected at the site and analyzed today," FAA said in a statement posted on its offical Twitter account. "This evidence, together with newly refined satellite data availabe to FAA this morning, led to this decision," FAA added.
"The grounding will remain in effect pending further investigation, including examination of information from the aircraft's flight data recorders and cockpit voice recorders," FAA continued. "An FAA team is in Ethiopia assisting the NTSB as parties to the investigation of the Flight 302 accident. The agency will continue to investigate," FAA said.
Earlier on Wednesday US Donald Trump said that the US is grounding Boeing 737 MAX 8 and MAX 9 aircraft until further notice.
On March 10 the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX aircraft crashed near Addis Ababa killing all 157 people onboard. On 29 October 2018 a Lion Air Boeing MAX aircraft crashed in Indonesia killing all 189 people onboard.
