Venezuela has not requested Russia’s assistance yet, the Kremlin also stated

MOSCOW, January 24. /TASS/. Moscow currently holds no contacts with Washington over the situation in Venezuela, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday.

"No, no contacts are being undertaken at the current moment," Peskov said, responding to a question about whether there were contacts with the US side after its statements on Venezuela.

The Kremlin spokesman told journalists they should address Russia’s Foreign Ministry to learn about the possible plans of such contacts. "Now there is certain activity on this score in the UN Security Council. That is why, these issues should be addressed to our Foreign Ministry," Peskov said.

He recalled that Venezuela has not requested Russia’s assistance yet. "There have been no such requests so far," the Kremlin spokesman said when asked whether Moscow was considering any options of providing assistance to Venezuela.

According to Peskov, it is inappropriate now to discuss Moscow’s potential answer to Caracas, if such a request is received. "Eventual arguments are hardly appropriate here," he explained.

When asked whether a telephone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro was planned, he assured, "If it is planned, we will inform you later.".
