MOSCOW, January 20. /TASS/. The Saudi-led coalition launched a series of airstrikes on targets in Yemen’s capital Sanaa on Saturday, the Al-Mayadeen TV channel reported.
One of the attacks targeted a military base in the northern outskirts of the Yemeni capital. Two more strikes targeted the city’s eastern suburb. The coalition’s warplanes continue to fly in Sanaa airspace.
According to earlier report by Sky News Arabia, the coalition was conducting a special operation against facilities and arms depots of the rebel Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement and asked civilians to keep away from those targets.
On January 11, coalition warplanes have destroyed a facility to launch and control drones, which the Houthi movement actively uses against its adversaries. The attack came as a response to an earlier strike of an explosives-laden drone, which targeted a military parade in government-held Lahij province in the country’s south. The drone exploded at grandstands where high-ranking guests were accommodated, killing six people and injuring about 20, including the local governor and the chief of General Staff. Later, the country’s military intelligence chief, Brigadier General Saleh Tamah, succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
