Ukraine set not to allow Russian observers to monitor presidential elections
The presidential election in Ukraine is scheduled for March 31
KIEV, January 9. /TASS/. Kiev will not allow Russian citizens to monitor the presidential election in March 2019, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin said on Wednesday.
"A few days ago, in line with the procedure, I sent a letter to Director of the [OSCE] Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Ingibjorg Solrun Gisladottir requesting to deploy a monitoring mission for the presidential election in Ukraine. Among other quite standard things, I pointed out that Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry will not be accepting applications from Russian observers," Klimkin wrote on Facebook.
The Ukrainian presidential election is scheduled to be held on March 31. Ukraine’s Central Election Commission introduced amendments to the decree on polling stations on December 31, 2018, closing all polling stations in Russia. The decree says that Ukrainians in Russia can exercise their voting right at polling stations in Georgia, Kazakhstan, and Finland.
