Russian Foreign Ministry calls for joint efforts against terrorism after Strasbourg attack
An attack on a Christmas market in France's Strasbourg left three people killed and 13 more injured
MOSCOW, December 12. /TASS/. A shooting incident at a Christmas market in Strasbourg proves that efforts should be urgently joined against international terrorism, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.
"Recent events once again prove that it is necessary to promptly join efforts of the entire international community facing a threat of terrorism," the foreign ministry said.
"We mourn together with the loved ones of those killed and express our sympathy for those injured," the ministry added.
Late on Tuesday, a 29-year-old man opened fire at the Christmas market in the center of Strasbourg. According to the police, he had been sought by police on suspicion of attempted murder and several robberies and had to be arrested that morning. Earlier media reports said his profile had been included in the list of potential terrorists and other individuals posing a threat to state security, compiled by France's domestic security service, DGSI.
Three people were killed and another 13 were injured. An Italian citizen is among those injured and he is in a serious condition. According to Thailand’s Foreign Ministry, the citizen of that country died in the terrorist attack. The Russian consulate general in Strasbourg said that Russians were not listed among the victims.
