UN General Assembly committee approves Russian-led draft resolution against cybercrime
MOSCOW, November 14. /TASS/. The Third Committee of the UN General Assembly has approved the draft Russian-led resolution on combating cybercrime, Russia’s permanent mission to the UN said in a Twitter statement.
According to the document, the UN General Assembly, "concerned by the increase in the rate and diversity of crimes committed in the digital world and their impact on the stability of critical infrastructure of states and enterprises and on the well-being of individuals… requests the Secretary-General to seek the views of Member States on the challenges they face in countering the use of information and communications technologies for criminal purposes and to present a report based on those views for consideration by the General Assembly at its seventy-fourth session."
The document was supported by 88 nations.
The resolution will be considered at a plenary session of the UN General Assembly by the end of the year.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly that Russia believes it is important to draft a convention on the fight against cybercrime and elaborate under the UN aegis rules on global rules of responsible conduct of nations in the information space.
