Members of Asian political parties’ conference condemn Khashoggi’s murder

MOSCOW, October 25. /TASS/. Participants of the tenth General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties have condemned the murder of Saudi reporter Jamal Khashoggi that took place at the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul, member of the Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) Yevgeny Revenko informed TASS on Thursday.

"At our suggestion, at the suggestion of the United Russia party we have added a following paragraph to the forum’s resolution: we are shocked by the appalling murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi Arabian general consulate in Istanbul on October 2 of this year. We strongly condemn all violent behavior against journalists and attempts to hinder their professional activity," Revenko said.

Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, known for his criticism of Saudi Arabia's current policy, left his home country and moved to the United States in 2017. The journalist wrote articles for The Washington Post, analyzing the situation in Saudi Arabia and the country's foreign policy and criticizing Riyadh.

On October 20, Saudi Arabia’s authorities announced that the journalist died after a conflict in the consulate general. Saudi Arabia's Public Prosecutor Saud Al-Moajab declared that 18 Saudi nationals had been under investigation, without revealing their names. The international community joined in their condemnation of Khashoggi’s murder and called for a transparent investigation of the crime. Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that his murder had been "thoroughly planned.".
