UNGA approves ex-Chilean president’s appointment as new High Commissioner for Human Rights

Bachelet will take office on September 1

UNITED NATIONS, August 10. /TASS/. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has approved former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet’s appointment as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the decision was made by consensus without a vote.

Bachelet will take office on September 1 and may be re-elected after her four-year term expires. United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres nominated Bachelet to this position on Wednesday.
