More checkpoints to open amid flow of refugees returning to Syria

Syria's president had fully backed the setting up of the interdepartmental coordination headquarters on the basis of the National Defense Control Center

MOSCOW, August 1. /TASS/. The Russian Center for Refugee Reception, Distribution and Accommodation will increase the number of checkpoints and expand its regional missions ahead of an expected growing flow of Syrians returning home, Head of Russia’s National Defense Control Center Colonel-General Mikhail Mizintsev said on Wednesday.

"In addition to the already operating checkpoints, three new have been opened and are already functioning - overland checkpoint Salhiyah in Deir ez-Zor province, Baniyas maritime entry checkpoint and Duwali air checkpoint. Today, four more checkpoints have been opened on the Syrian-Lebanese border," the general said.

He said the Syrian president had fully backed the setting up of the interdepartmental coordination headquarters on the basis of the National Defense Control Center, as well as the setting up of the Center for Refugee Reception, Distribution and Accommodation in Damascus with missions at checkpoints.

"An analogous Syrian operational agency is being set up for cooperation with the Russian Center for Refugee Reception, Distribution and Accommodation, with which round-the-clock work will be organized," Mizintsev said.
