SSJ-100 test plane makes rough landing near Moscow
The plane sustained minor damage and will continue test flights after repairs
MOSCOW, July 12. /TASS/. A Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ-100) test plane has made a rough landing at an airfield 40 km south-east of Moscow on Thursday, the press service of the aircraft’s manufacturer Sukhoi said.
"On July 12, 2018, while performing a test fight to evaluate the plane’s aerodynamics with wingtip fairings at the Gromov Flight Research Institute airfield, an SSJ-100 test plane was unable to fully extend the right unit of its landing gear after completing the testing program," the Sukhoi press service said in a statement.
The plane had three crew members on board. No injuries were reported.
"The plane sustained minor damage. It will continue test flights after repairs," Sukhoi said.
The Zhukovsky International Airport, which uses runways of the Gromov Flight Research Institute airfield, said the runway was temporarily closed after the incident, but suffered no damage. The aircraft is currently being towed away.
A source in the Gromov Flight Research Institute said the aircraft performed the landing on a the foam-covered runway to rule out the possibility of ignition.
"At present, specialists are examining the runway to establish whether it had sustained any damage," the source said, adding that the facility will resume its operations within one hour.
According to preliminary data, a flight to China was delayed as a result. Another plane, arriving from Tel Aviv, was ordered to land at the alternate aerodrome.
