No Lavrov-Pompeo talks planned ahead of Russia-US summit — Department of State
"Nothing is on the schedule, at least not at this point," she said
WASHINGTON, July 3. /TASS/. No meeting is planned between US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in the run-up to the upcoming Russian-US presidential talks, US Department of State Spokesperson Heather Nauert has told reporters.
"Nothing is on the schedule, at least not at this point," she said.
She confirmed that the upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump was the focus of phone talks between the two states’ top diplomats on Tuesday.
Commenting on the results of the Lavrov-Pompeo conversation, held on Washington’s initiative, the Russian Foreign Ministry said the two top diplomats "discussed preparations for a Russian-US summit due to be held in Helsinki on July 16, as well as prospects for further development of bilateral relations, including in the sphere on strategic stability." Lavrov and Pompeo also discussed "a number of current issues of the world agenda, including the situation around Syria and on the Korean Peninsula," the ministry said.
