Trump to meet with Kim Jong-un in Singapore on June 12
Trump said that the leaders of the two countries "will both try to make it a very special moment for World Peace"
WASHINGTON, May 10. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump twittered on Thursday that he would have a meeting with the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore on June 12.
"The highly anticipated meeting between Kim Jong Un and myself will take place in Singapore on June 12th," he wrote. "We will both try to make it a very special moment for World Peace!"
Kim Jong-un said on his part earlier on Thursday his meeting with Trump would bring about encouraging changes in the region. Korean Central News Agency quoted him as saying the summit would become a historic springboard for the first step towards positive changes on the Korean peninsula and construction of a bright future.
On April 27, Kim Jong-un and the South Korean President Moon Jae-in held a meeting in South Korea, with political scientists calling it a warmup before the talks with Trump.
In the course of the meeting, the leaders of the North and South agreed to press forward to a full denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula and to put a formal end to the Korean War of 1950-1953, which ended with the signing of a ceasefire agreement.
