Terror attack foiled in Russia's North Caucasus

According to law enforcers, a man planned an explosion and arson at a local school and day-care center

PYATIGORSK, April 19. /TASS/. Law enforcement officers have thwarted an attempted terrorist attack in the city of Stavropol in Russia's North Caucasus, the press service of the city’s Leninsky District Court reported on Thursday.

"Law enforcement officers have thwarted an attempted terrorist attack. Two-month custody, that is until June 14, has been chosen as a pre-trial restraint for Panchenko M.E. suspected under Part 1 of Section 30 and Part 1 of Section 205 of Russia’s Criminal Code," the press service said.

According to law enforcers, Maxim Panchenko planned an explosion and arson at a local school and day-care center. They also do not rule out that he was involved in the activities of a radical Islamist organization outlawed in Russia.

If convicted, he is facing a prison term of up to fifteen years.
