WADA chief Reedie praises Russian anti-doping body’s efforts on membership reinstatement
Starting January 2016, control over anti-doping regulations in Russian sports has been exercised by RUSADA strictly under the supervision of the British anti-doping agency
LAUSANNE, March 13. /TASS/. The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) has been taking obvious steps in the direction of its membership’s reinstatement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Sir Craig Reedie, the president of WADA, said on Monday.
Reedie said addressing the Annual WADA Symposium, held in Lausanne between March 13 and 15, that the Russian anti-doping agency had been recently doing everything possible to be independent from any external factor, adding that two foreign experts had been working in RUSADA since March 2016 guaranteeing the Russian organization’s independence in doping tests of Russian athletes both at home and abroad.
The WADA chief reiterated that doping tests and collection of doping samples were conducted by RUSADA under the supervision of the British Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD).
Less than two years ago the WADA Independent Commission carried out an investigation in regard to the activities of RUSADA, the All-Russia Athletics Federation (ARAF), the Moscow anti-doping laboratory and the Russian Sports Ministry, and announced the results of the probe on November 9, 2015.
The commission accused certain athletes and sports officials of doping abuse and involvement in other activities related to violations of international regulations on performance enhancing substances. The work of the Moscow anti-doping laboratory and RUSADA was eventually suspended.
Starting last year’s January control over anti-doping regulations in Russian sports has been exercised by RUSADA strictly under the supervision of the British anti-doping agency (UKAD).
