The chairman of the newly established Russian Olympic Committee’s anti-doping commission says an integrated system needed

RIO DE JANEIRO, August 4. /TASS/. Russia is ready to build such a model in sport that will exclude any possibility of doping abuse, Vitaly Smirov, an honorary member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and chairman of the newly established Russian Olympic Committee’s (ROC) anti-doping commission, said on Wednesday.

"Russia is ready to build a model in sport, under which doping will be impossible," he said. "Our stance is that a common approach will be used to all to exclude any possibility of doping use. But it should be an integrated system."

"It was quite natural that a strop team is forced to face obstacles," Smirnov said. "Our track and field athletes are in a difficult situation and I am very sorry for them. The position of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) is not clear."

Russia’s positions in weightlifting

Smirnov went on to say that Russia’s positions in international weightlifting are not strong enough.

"In weightlifting, the position of our representative to the international organization is not clear," he said.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has turned down an appeal of the Russian Weightlifting Federation and upheld the decision of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) to ban Russian weightlifters from the Olympic Games in Rio, the AFP reported.

The IWF banned Russian weightlifters from competing in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio last Friday for numerous violations of anti-doping rules.

According to the IWF, a total of seven confirmed AAFs for Russian weightlifters from the combined reanalysis process of London and Beijing.

Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko announced earlier in the day that serious reformations were planned for the national weightlifting federation in the wake of the IWF’s decision to ban all Russian weightlifters from the 2016 Summer Olympics.
