BUDAPEST, May 3. /TASS/. The Kosovo Football Federation has become a member of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). This decision was taken in accordance with the results of the voting at the UEFA congress in Budapest.
A total of 28 votes were cast for Kosovo’s UEFA membership, 24 votes were cast against. Two ballots were declared invalid. Kosovo’s federation thus became UEFA’s 55th member.
President of the Kosovo Football Federation Fadil Vokkri said Kosovo was joining the European football family describing the results of the voting as "a historic day."
"We will be able to bring people together through football on the pitch and around the pitch," Vokrri said.
Now the Kosovo Football Federation can apply for membership at the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and take part in the qualifying tournament of the 2018 FIFA World Cup that will be held in Russia. The issue will be discussed at the FIFA congress in Mexico City on May 12-13.
