IBU confirms positive doping tests for Russian, Ukrainian biathletes

Provisionally suspended Russia’s Alexander Loginov and Ukraine’s Serhiy Sednev proved positive for prohibited substances, The International Biathlon Union (IBU) announced

VIENNA, January 12. /TASS/. The International Biathlon Union (IBU) announced on Monday that reanalyzed A samples of two provisionally suspended biathletes, namely Russia’s Alexander Loginov and Ukraine’s Serguei Sednev, proved positive for prohibited substances.

The IBU said in its statement that the reanalyzed A samples of Loginov, provisionally suspended as of November 25, 2014, and Sednev, provisionally suspended as of December 15, 2014, proved positive for recombinant EPO from the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) laboratory.

“Both athletes waived the B sample analysis of the reanalyzed samples,” the statement said adding that “the IBU Anti-Doping Hearing panel will decide about the period of ineligibility for both athletes.”
