FIFA inspects Sochi’s Fisht stadium for hosting 2018 World Cup
The inspection began on Saturday at 11:50 Moscow time
SOCHI, October 18. /TASS/.FIFA inspectors were satisfied with the Fisht stadium in Sochi, which will host games of 2018 World Cup, FIFA inspection committee head Christian Unger told reporters on Saturday.
The group features experts in construction of stadiums, organisation of events, security, transport, logistics, hospitality services, television broadcast, work of the media, medical services, personnel, and in organisation of marketing and ticketing programmes. The experts are divided into several groups. The inspection began on Saturday at 11:50 Moscow time.
The FIFA official stressed the importance of the first visit the inspectors make to a city and stadium. In this case, he said, of special interest is that the stadium in Sochi hosted a grand event like Olympic Games.
The Fisht stadium was built for the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014. During the FIFA World Cup, it will offer 47,659 seats. It is located in Sochi Olympic Park and named after Mount Fisht.
On Thursday, the inspectors visited a stadium in St. Petersburg, and next day - the Kazan-Arena. On October 19 and 20, the commission will see Moscow’s Otkrytie Arena and Luzhniki. Between October 21 and 23 they will have a virtual inspection of the other stadiums, which may host the World Cup in 2018.
