MOSCOW, July 2. /ITAR-TASS/. The compensation for a possible unilateral termination of the contract between Fabio Capello, head coach of Russia’s national football team, and the Football Union of Russia (FUR) makes about $25 million. A source in the organization reported this to ITAR-TASS.

Being rumored to be the highest paid national coach in the world, Italian phenomenon Capello managed to help the Russian national team to qualify for the current World Cup in Brazil. The team, however, failed to clear even the first stage of the much-anticipated global tournament putting their coach in the center of stern criticism.

The contract with Capello continues until 2018.

“After a successful performance in the qualification for the World Cup in Brazil the terms of the contract between Capello and FUR have changed. Earlier, the breakup fee for unilateral termination of the contract was about $5 million for both parties, but now it is nearly $25 million,” the source said.

The Russian national team has shown poor results at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, scoring two points and finishing third in the Group H. Belgium that scored 9 points ranked first. Algeria made it through to the Round of 16 from the second place in group. The South Korean team with one point ranked fourth.

Criticism of Capello and his squad’s performance at the World Cup in Brazil reached the Russian parliament on Tuesday, when one of the lawmakers urged the Italian coach to return part of the money that Russia paid him under the contract for the “shameful defeat” at the championship.

“I am addressing Fabio Capello. You received 800 million rubles ($23 million) for a shameful defeat. Give the money back, or at least half of it,” Oleg Pakholkov, a lawmaker from A Just Russia political party, said addressing the parliament.
