The very first Wimbledon tournament was held back in 1877 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London. The Gentlemen's Singles was the only event held until 1884. With years, the tournament has grown to become one of the most prestigious in world tennis.

Traditions play a significant role at Wimbledon. Dark green and purple are the traditional Wimbledon colours. However, all tennis players participating in the tournament are required to wear all-white or at least almost all-white clothing. The traditions include eating of strawberries and cream by the spectators and Royal support.
