RIO DE JANEIRO, June 17. /ITAR-TASS/. Effective play of the German national team, as well as a quick goal scored by American forward Clint Dempsey have marked the fifth day of the 2014 FIFA World Cup currently taking place in Brazil.

In a Group G match against Portugal, the German team has shown that it came to the world championship to claim only gold, and the 4:0 score is a brilliant proof to it. Although both teams seemed titans in terms of lineup, there was no epic fight. In the first time, the spectators saw the massacre of the innocent instead.

The Portuguese team led by the two-fold Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, who managed to completely recover ahead of the tournament, could not counter with the German squad that seemed a combat machine. Among the non-game events of the day a special place took visits of political figures to the matches of the world championship. Chancellor Angela Merkel watched the game between Germany and Portugal. Ahead of the match, Merkel held a meeting with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, and then visited a children’s football tournament in Boca do Rio. Before her trip to Brazil, Merkel made a statement saying that by her visit, she wished to support the national team, as well as gratitude to the hosting country.

The Ghana – USA match was marked by an unpleasant incident. Protesters in the city of Natal burned the star-spangled banner near the Arena das Dunas stadium, where the match was to take place. This game was visited by US Vice President Joe Biden.
