Louis van Gaal appointed Manchester United new manager

LONDON, May 19. / ITAR-TASS/. English football club Manchester United announced the appointment of Louis van Gaal as a head coach. Manchester United official website reported that Van Gaal will join on a three-year contract.

Ryan Giggs will be Dutch coach assistant, who was previously acting head coach. "To work as a manager for Manchester United, the biggest club in the world, makes me very proud.  This club has big ambitions; I too have big ambitions. Together I'm sure we will make history," Van Gaal said.

"Everyone is very excited about this new phase in the club's history. His track record of success in winning leagues and cups across Europe throughout his career makes him the perfect choice for us. People know him as a larger-than-life character but I have also been extremely impressed by his intelligence, thoughtful approach to the role and his diligence," Executive director Ed Woodward noted.

Most of his coaching career Van Gaal worked in Amsterdam Ajax from 1991 to 1997. Under his leadership, the capital team became the champion of the Netherlands (1994, 1995, 1996), the Dutch Super Cup (1993, 1994, 1995), as well as the winner of the UEFA Cup (1992), the Champions League (1995), the UEFA Super Cup (1995) and the Intercontinental Cup (1995).
