Football club Zenit wins trial vs fan burning Chechen flag
Police have detained the offender with active assistance of Zenit representatives
ST. PETERSBURG, May 14./ITAR-TASS/. Football club Zenit St. Petersburg fined a fan 300 thousand rubles (approximately $8500) for an attempt to burn the flag of the Russian North Caucasian Republic of Chechnya at the stadium in a match of the Russian Premier League championship which the St. Petersburg team had won 2-0 with Terek Grozny, the official website of the St. Petersburg football club stated.
The incident occurred on September 14, 2013. The police detained the offender with active assistance of Zenit representatives. Petrogradsky district court brought him to administrative responsibility.
The controlling and disciplinary committee of the Russian Football Union decided to fine the club 300 thousand rubles for illegal actions of fans. On Wednesday, the club levied this fine from the violator.
The fan still can appeal the court verdict.
