SOCHI, March 11. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s Black Sea resort of Sochi has trained over 4,000 volunteers for the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, says head of the city administration’s youth policy department Andrei Bezrodnov.

“The main team includes 3,300 volunteers, while others are the reserve team,” he told reporters on Tuesday. “Every day 550 volunteers go to work. At the Olympic Games 1,250 volunteers worked in 55 areas of activity. A volunteer’s workday lasts five hours.”

“Every volunteer has undergone training in history and culture. They know how to provide medical assistance and work in a team,” Bezrodnov said. “Sochi State University developed special trainings.”

All volunteers received uniform, bags and were provided with free of charge communication, travel and food.

“As a result, boys and girls will get souvenirs and thank you letters from the Sochi city mayor. According to our estimates, volunteers have done great work at the Olympic Games. It is still early to sum up the results of the Paralympics,” Bezrodnov said.

He said volunteers working at sports facilities should not be mixed up with city volunteers.

“The first category unites around 25,000 people from all over the country. Their work is controlled by the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee, while city volunteers work on the territory of Sochi with guests of the Games,” he said.
