Russians prove to be good organizers, great athletes
The television companies cited International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach as saying Russia had fulfilled all the promises
OTTAWA, February 24. /ITAR-TASS/. Russians have proved to be good organizers of Olympic Games and great athletes, Canada's CBC and CTV noted on Sunday, commenting on the Sochi Winter Olympics closing ceremony.
The television companies cited International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach as saying Russia had fulfilled all the promises. They also noted great success of the Sochi Olympics in the aspect of security.
The ceremony began at 20:14 local time (GMT+4) to symbolically remind about the year of the Games. Spectators on stands chanted "Russia, Russia". Then, impressive pictures of Russian history and culture were shown. The ceremony was concluded with amazing fireworks, CTV said.
According to CBC, Russians have what to be proud of as their athletes won the most number of medals - 33, including 13 gold. It is quite different from the results they had shown at the Vancouver Games in 2010 with only three gold medals and a total of 15.
After the ceremony, the Itar-Tass office in Ottawa received messages from Canadians who expressed their admiration. "Wonderfully organized Games. Russia's government and people had done great work. Congratulations," they wrote.
